Tricams extend a traditional rack where the rock shape suits a specific size. A set does not make every placement sound: security depends on rock, load direction and competent placement.
Check before payment. Inspect every metal body, sling and stitch. Learn to distinguish active and passive placements, test the expected load direction and remove the unit without damaging the sling.
How Tricams supplement a protection rack
The four Dyneema Tricams can work in active or passive configurations in suitable cracks and pockets. They supplement rather than replace the complete protection rack for a route. Sizes 0.5–2.0 must match the actual rock; placement security depends on rock quality, expected load direction and competent technique.
Pre-purchase check. Lay out all sizes and inspect every metal body, sling, stitch and label. Make sure you understand active and passive placements and can remove a unit without damaging its sling. A bent body, cut Dyneema, opened stitch or unreadable marking requires replacement rather than a field repair.
Compare before choosing
Compare this four-piece Tricam set with passive nuts and camming devices by the rock and placements expected on the route. Tricams can work in pockets and some shapes where another item may not, but they cover a limited size range and demand specific placement and removal skills.
