How to reserve Mount Elbrus rental equipment in Terskol, send sizes and dates, confirm availability and collect your gear before the climb.
Rock’N’RentLocal equipment notes from Terskol
Renting equipment for Mount Elbrus starts with a usable list, not at the rental counter. If you send your dates, route or program, number of participants and measurements in advance, the rental team can check the request and prepare available options for fitting. Once you reach Terskol, you can concentrate on selecting the right boots, matching crampons or bindings to them, and checking the complete set before it leaves the shop.
Rock’N’Rent at Alamat Hotel in Terskol is on the lower level at 66A Elbrusskaya Street. The shop rents mountaineering, trekking, camping, ski and snowboard equipment. Prices, opening hours and stock can change, so use the live pages on this site and wait for the shop to confirm your request before counting on any particular item.
Step 1: Start with your program or activity
For a climb, choose the relevant route group in the Mount Elbrus rental calculator. It loads a starting list of personal rental items and suggested rental periods for that group of programs. It is not a complete packing list and it does not replace the guide’s decision. You can remove an item, change a model, quantity or number of days, and add anything else your current list requires.
If your guide has already sent an exact list, start with an empty calculation and add only what is missing. For skiing or snowboarding, use the winter section: piste skiing, snowboarding and ski touring use different boots, bindings and safety systems. Do not mix summer mountaineering gear and winter equipment into one random list.
Step 2: Divide the list into four columns
- Bringing: familiar personal equipment that you have already used and checked.
- Renting: items the shop must confirm and, where relevant, fit in Terskol.
- Organizer-provided: only equipment confirmed in writing for your exact program.
- Unresolved: anything whose model, quantity, rental period or responsible person is still unknown.
The unresolved column should be empty before departure. An item appearing in the catalog does not mean your route requires it, and calling something “group equipment” does not establish who supplies it or who carries it.
Step 3: Send the details that affect selection
State the intended collection and return dates, route or activity, number of people and requested items. Set a separate rental period for any item you need for a different number of days than the rest of the set.
- Footwear: the length of both feet in millimeters, usual size, any relevant foot characteristics, and the socks you will use for fitting.
- Clothing: height, weight, usual size and the layers the garment must fit over.
- Skis and snowboards: height, weight, boot size and riding ability; for a snowboard, state whether you ride regular or goofy.
- Backpacks: the program, expected load volume and load weight, not just a preferred capacity in liters.
- Technical equipment: the guide’s exact list and the intended purpose of each item.
These details help the team prepare possible options; they do not assign a model automatically. Boots, clothing, helmets, harnesses and backpacks still need to be checked in person.
Step 4: Check how the estimate is calculated
The live price list shows the base daily rate for each item. The calculator works line by line: trekking poles may be needed earlier than high-altitude boots and crampons, while a winter set may have a different rental period from the clothing worn with it.
In winter, a single 10% discount applies to rentals of four days or longer, or to more than four complete sets; discounts cannot be combined. There is no automatic long-rental discount for summer equipment. Every online total remains an estimate until Rock’N’Rent confirms stock, sizes, deposit and the final amount.
Step 5: Ask early about size-dependent equipment
Ask early about high-altitude and ski boots, warm clothing, helmets, harnesses, large backpacks and popular winter sets. Contacting the shop early does not remove the need for fitting, but it gives the team time to check its size range and prepare available alternatives.
No shop can guarantee fit from a message alone. Measuring at home cuts down how many pairs you have to try, but it cannot show heel hold, a pressure point, freedom of movement or compatibility with the exact crampon or binding issued.
Step 6: Allow time to fit the set in the right order
- Try both boots with the socks you will actually wear.
- Once the boots are selected, adjust the crampons, ski bindings or snowboard bindings to that exact pair.
- Put on clothing in the real order of layers.
- Fit the harness and backpack over the clothing they will be used with.
- Check the helmet with your hat, hood, glasses or goggles.
- In gloves, operate the zippers, buckles and fastening systems you will need to handle.
An item can fit well on its own and still interfere with the rest of the system. Check the complete set together at the counter rather than walking out with several sealed bags.
Step 7: Check condition and completeness at pickup
Lay the issued items out against the request. Confirm quantity, size, rental period and every component. For a tent, stove, radio or rope, ask exactly what is included. For a detailed handover checklist, see how to inspect rental equipment before leaving the shop.
Where relevant, inspect fabric, seams, zippers, buckles, straps, soles, ski or snowboard edges and bases, and electronics. Existing wear should be recorded in the handover document. Keep the rental agreement, receipt and shop contact details.
Step 8: Agree on return and any extension
Rental is counted in calendar days; the return time depends on the season and the current terms. Check the date and time in your documents before leaving. If the program changes or you need an extra day, contact the shop before the original return deadline.
An extension is valid only after confirmation because the item may already be promised to the next customer. Additional days are charged under the current terms once agreed. Keeping the equipment longer and reporting it after the deadline is not an extension.
What to bring to the fitting
- the confirmed request and the current program list;
- the socks you will wear in the boots;
- your own clothing layers for checking fit;
- your own boots if you are renting crampons for them;
- custom insoles if you genuinely plan to use them;
- a phone with the organizer’s and guide’s contact details, in case a line on the list is still unresolved.
What the calculator and request do not guarantee
The calculator organizes a list and estimates cost. It does not confirm stock, fit or the safety of a route. Rock’N’Rent is responsible for the items it issues, their condition, price and rental terms. The program, season, current conditions and responsible guide determine the final equipment list.
Rock’N’Rent handles equipment rental. It does not enter into tour contracts, accept tour payments or conduct correspondence about guided programs. Questions about organizing a climb must go directly to the relevant tour operator.
Send one clear request
In one message, include collection and return dates, number of participants, route or activity, requested items and measurements. Add a working phone number. The shop can then reply about stock, substitutions, deposit and the final amount without reconstructing the order from several unrelated chats.
Start here: build the set in the Rock’N’Rent calculator, then read the rental, deposit and return terms. The address, current opening hours and contact options are on the contact page.
