How to fit and inspect Red Fox high-altitude overboots
Red Fox overboots add an outer protective and insulating layer around compatible mountaineering boots. They must be fitted to the actual boots and the intended crampon system. They do not correct badly fitting footwear and do not provide one guaranteed temperature rating.
Bring the complete boot pair
Install each overboot over the actual left and right boot. Check shell volume, sole shape, closures and the position of the boot inside. Printed boot size alone cannot confirm compatibility with a particular overboot.
Keep the boot seated correctly
The boot should enter without excessive force, while the overboot should not rotate or bunch. Close zips, hook-and-loop areas, drawcords or other fasteners completely. Fabric must not be trapped in a closure or pulled tightly over one pressure point.
Check walking movement
Flex the ankle, raise the knee and take controlled steps in the fitting area. The overboot should not drag, twist or interfere with the opposite foot. Confirm that the user can recognize a partially open closure while wearing gloves.
Fit crampons to the complete system
If crampons are required, they must be checked after the overboots are installed. Staff confirm frame length, toe and heel seating, retention, straps and anti-balling plates on both feet. Do not use crampon settings prepared for the bare boot without a new compatibility check.
Inspect fabric and lower surfaces
Check outer fabric, seams, zip, closure, sole area, reinforcements and adjustments. Look for tears, worn contact points, damaged teeth or sliders and areas that release insulation. Record existing repairs and marks.
Keep the system dry
Pack overboots in reliable moisture protection and separate them from sharp hardware. Air them when conditions permit. Do not place wet socks or liners inside for storage, and keep the fabric away from crampon points, ice screws, flame and high heat.
