Remove the probe from its sleeve and deploy it completely while wearing the gloves intended for the route. Every segment should align, the internal cable or cord should tension correctly and the locking mechanism should remain secure. Repeat the process until it is deliberate rather than accidental.
Inspect every section
Look along the assembled shaft for bends, cracks, loose ferrules or sections that do not seat fully. Check the tip, handle or pull element, tensioning system and any depth markings. A damaged, incomplete or repeatedly unlocking probe should not leave the shop.
Confirm useful length and markings
