Rent a ski touring set for Mount Elbrus

The ski-touring set contains touring skis with compatible bindings, touring boots and poles. Skins and avalanche equipment must be confirmed as separate items unless the written request explicitly includes them. Do not infer package contents from a photograph or from the word “set”.

Describe the person and the planned use

Send height, weight, normal shoe size, both foot lengths in millimeters and an honest account of ski-touring and downhill experience. State the route or intended terrain, dates, expected duration and group leadership. This information prepares a fitting; it does not confirm that a route or condition is suitable.

Fit the boots before checking the system

Try both boots in one appropriate sock. Check heel retention, toe room, pressure points and all closures in a flexed stance. Walk in the boot and operate its intended uphill and downhill modes. The final fit must be checked physically rather than inferred from a street-shoe size.

Boots, bindings and skis are one system

Staff must confirm that the issued boots work with the actual bindings. At collection, identify and operate the components used for uphill and downhill modes under staff supervision. Do not exchange boots, move binding parts or copy settings from another set.

Check the transition before leaving

Practice the sequence that the group will use: secure loose clothing and equipment, change the boot mode, operate the binding and adjust the poles. A customer should be able to recognize the correct configuration rather than encounter every control for the first time away from the shop.

Confirm skins explicitly

If skins are supplied, check that they correspond to the skis and inspect glue, tips and tails. Install, remove, fold and pack them yourself before collection. Ask how the supplied pair should be stored during the rental. Do not trim or modify rental skins.

Inspect all issued equipment

• check ski bases, edges and top surfaces;
• inspect bindings and brakes or retention components as supplied;
• operate boot closures and mode controls;
• check both pole shafts, grips, straps, baskets and locks;
• record existing marks or damage;
• match every item to the issue document.

This is not an ordinary piste package

Ski touring requires uphill movement, transitions, controlled descent and decisions appropriate to terrain and conditions. Renting equipment does not demonstrate those skills and does not make a route acceptable. Follow the group leader’s plan and turn back when the required margin is absent.

Avalanche equipment is a separate system

The route, conditions and responsible leader determine whether each person must carry a transceiver, probe and shovel. If required, all three must be available and the group must practice with the actual models. Equipment neither prevents an avalanche nor replaces training, terrain choices and the decision not to travel.

Stop when a component changes

Stop and contact Rock’N’Rent if a closure, mode lever, binding, skin, ski or pole behaves unusually. Do not attempt an improvised repair or alteration.
