ORBIT LOCK is lighter and smaller than a large HMS carabiner. It works where the anchor or device allows this geometry; a wider HMS shape may be preferable for a Munter hitch or multiple ropes.
Check before payment. Test the gate and sleeve, read the markings and place it in the intended system. Avoid cross-loading, three-way loading, rock pressure on the sleeve and use with an open gate.
Where ORBIT LOCK makes sense
ORBIT LOCK is a compact screwgate for anchors, slings and compatible devices that do not require a large HMS body. Its 17 mm opening and geometry must leave enough clearance after equipment is inserted. A wider carabiner may be better for a Munter hitch, multiple ropes or a bulky belay device.
Pre-purchase check. Assemble the intended connection before payment and check that the device cannot press on the sleeve, rock or nose. The thread should move smoothly, the 24/8/8 kN markings should be legible and the gate should close by itself. Avoid three-way loading, an open sleeve, deformation and heavy wear in the working zone.
Compare before choosing
Compare ORBIT LOCK with PHOTON LOCK, NITRO LOCK and CORE LOCK using the exact device or sling. ORBIT is compact and strong on the major axis, but its 17 mm opening and smaller body provide less room than an HMS shape. Select it when the connection stays clear and aligned, not simply because it is lighter or cheaper than a larger locking carabiner.
After purchase
Keep the model and strength markings traceable and perform the manufacturer’s slow gate-release and full sleeve check before use. Clean only as instructed and avoid unapproved oil, solvents and abrasive tools. If the sleeve is pressed against rock, the gate becomes sticky or the body experiences impact, cross-loading or deformation, remove it from the rack until it has been competently assessed.
